Jong Yoo, Ph.D is the President and CEO of Applied Spectra, Inc. Dr. Yoo is in charge of commercializing developed laser ablation-based analytical technologies for various industries. Some of the industries targeted include: geochemistry, semiconductor equipment, medical, storage and nanotechnology. Dr. Yoo worked as a Senior Process Engineer for Applied Materials in Santa Clara, CA and also served as a Visiting Scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He has over 35 technical publications in journals including the Journal of Applied Physics , Applied Physics Letters, and Analytical Chemistry. He also currently holds four patents.
Dr. Yoo received his B.S. and Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley and his M.S. from Stanford University, all in Mechanical Engineering.
Richard E. Russo, Ph.D – Executive Chairman at Applied Spectra. Dr. Russo has studied laser ablation, LIBS and general atomic and molecular spectroscopy for over 35 years. He is a senior scientist and previously a department head at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He published more than 350 manuscripts in a variety of journals including Spectrochimica Acta B, Journal of Analytical Atomic Spectrometry, Applied Physics Letters, and others. He also has over 30 patents, 9 book chapters, and 400+ presentations to his name. He received R&D 100 Awards in 2006 and 2012, The Lester Strock Award in 20005 and 2013, and the ACS Award in Spectrochemical Analysis in 2016. His technical and scientific expertise is a driving factor in Applied Spectra’s emerging role in the LIBS and LA-ICP-MS industry.
Dr. Russo received his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Florida and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Indiana.
Chunyi Liu, Ph.D is Senior VP of Applied Spectra. Dr. Liu was responsible setting up the company’s facility in Fremont, CA and responsible for the company’s product development and manufacturing. He now oversees product development, engineering and R&D efforts in the company. His achievements include successfully transitioning research results into viable commercial products. He also led numerous projects converting prototype sensors in different form factors into working models in various applications. He is the author of over 15 published papers including Analytical Chemistry and the Journal of Analytical Atomic Spectrometry and four patents.
Dr. Liu received his B.S. and M.S. from National Taiwan University and his Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley, all in Mechanical Engineering.
Steve Shuttleworth, Ph.D is VP of Global Sales Management of Applied Spectra. As Vice President of Sales, Dr. Shuttleworth works with Applied Spectra sales team and international channel partners to manage the company’s global sales. He has more than 20 years of experience in global sales and business development in the laser ablation and scientific instrumentation industries. He also brings Applied Spectra extensive experience implementing global OEM and local distribution strategies.
Dr. Shuttleworth earned his MBA from Kaplan University in 2010 and received Ph.D (1995) and BSc (1989) in Chemistry from Manchester University in the UK. He has over 100 contributed peer reviewed papers, posters, and patents.
