Meet Applied Spectra at EWCPS 2017 in Austria

Booth #18
Feb 19-24, 2017
Sankt Anton, Austria

At the 2017 European Winter Conference on Plasma Spectrometry, Applied Spectra is presenting our latest LA (Laser Ablation) and LIBS (Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy) instrument innovations at booth #18. In particular, J200 Tandem LA–LIBS technology is the new landmark LA solid sampling approach that incorporates LIBS into an LA instrument to enable simultaneous LA-ICP-MS and LIBS. Discover how the J200 Tandem LA–LIBS can expand elemental coverage and concentration range based on both nanosecond and femtosecond laser pulse sampling for ICP-MS.

We would love to meet you at EWCPS 2017! At the conference, our product and application scientists will present a plenary lecture, oral and poster presentations as well as short courses. Join us, either at our booth #18 or during these technical presentations, and learn how the J200 LIBS, LA, and Tandem LA–LIBS instruments can advance your analytical research or industrial applications.

Title: Laser Ablation ICP-MS

Date: Sunday, February 19, 2017
Time: 10:00am – 4:00pm
Location: ARLBERG-well.com Finish Arena (ZIELSTADION)
Presenters: Dr. Jhanis J. Gonzalez and Bodo Hattenberg
Fee: 50€ regular / 30€ students

This short course will cover fundamental and applied aspects of experiments using laser ablation as a sampling tool for spatially resolved ICP-MS analysis. It will discuss, on a basic level, the phenomena occurring during LA and ICP-MS analyses most relevant for the interpretation of analytical results. The short course also is meant to be open for interaction and lively discussion of topics raised by the audience.

Online registration will be soon closed, but alternatively, on-site registration is available.

Title: LIBS

Date: Monday, February 20, 2017
Time: 7:30pm – 9:30pm
Location: ARLBERG-well.com
Presenters: Dr. Jhanis J. Gonzalez
Fee: Free of charge

This short course is intended to provide an overview of fundamentals, analysis modes, applications and the future direction of Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS).

Online registration will be soon closed, but alternatively, on-site registration is available.

Plenary Lecture by Dr. Rick Russo

Title: Laser Ablation Influence on Elemental and Isotopic Analysis

Session: LA-PL: LASER-ASSISTED ANALYSIS/GLOW DISCHARGE
Date: Thursday, February 23, 2017
Time: 8:30am – 9:00am
Location: ARLBERG-well.com NORTH HALL
Presenter: Dr. Rick Russo, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and Applied Spectra, Inc.

This plenary lecture provides an overview of the role of different laser sampling parameters on LIBS, LA-ICP-MS and LAMIS measurement. The lecture discusses how optical information from laser ablation can add complementary information to ICP-MS detection during laser ablation sampling. The lecture will also cover the use of femtosecond laser pulse to form filaments and using the guided filaments to perform long distance remote detection.

Dr. Rick Russo

Oral Presentation

Title: Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy for High Resolution Mapping of Core Samples

Session: LASER-ASSISTED ANALYSIS / GLOW DISCHARGE – GENERAL SESSION 1
Date: Thursday, February 23, 2017
Time: 9:30am – 9:40am
Location: ARLBERG-well.com NORTH HALL
Presenter: Dr. Derrick Quarles Jr.

This technical presentation highlights the use of LIBS along with IR microscopy to obtain both elemental and functional information about hydrocarbon components in mineral ores.
