Applied Spectra Honored with Best Paper Award in Spectrochimica Acta Part B
We are delighted to announce that the paper titled “Isotopic Analysis of Uranium at the Picogram Level with Single-Shot Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy,” authored by a team of researchers from Applied Spectra, Inc. and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, has been selected by the Spectrochimica Acta Part B (SAB) Editorial Board as the Best Paper of 2024. Published in SAB, Issue 216, this paper highlights state-of-the-art LIBS technology that significantly improves the uranium detection limit to 1.3 picograms—several orders of magnitude better than previously demonstrated results.
The innovations in LIBS hardware and data analysis will continue to enhance Applied Spectra’s LIBS instrumentation, providing greater spectral resolving power and higher sensitivity. This award recognizes the outstanding contributions of our researchers to the field of atomic spectroscopy.
In recognition of this achievement, Dr. Richard E. Russo has been invited to deliver a keynote lecture at the 7th Special Session dedicated to the Spectrochimica Acta Part B Award at SCIX 2025 (formerly FACSS). The conference will take place from October 5–10, 2025, at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Russo and the entire research team for this prestigious honor and their continued contributions to advancing scientific knowledge.
Stay tuned for more updates as we prepare for SCIX 2025!
