Workshop on Laser Ablation for Forensic Science
Applied Spectra, Inc. and Analytik Jena, in cooperation with the National Center for Forensic Science at the University of Central Florida, are pleased to announce a two-day workshop for scientific researchers on Laser Ablation (LA-ICP-MS and LIBS) for Forensic Science Applications.

Dr. Matthieu Baudelet graduated with a B.S. in Physics in the University of Lille (France) in 2003, starting his experience in Spectroscopy with Fourier-Transform Microwave Spectroscopy. In 2005, he graduated with a M.S. in “Laser and Spectroscopy” in the University of Lyon (France) and continued to complete his Ph.D. in the ‘Laboratoire de Spectrométrie Ionique et Moléculaire’ (Lasim, Lyon) working on “Laser-induced plasma and spectroscopic analysis” under the direction of Pr. Jin YU.
Now Assistant Professor of Chemistry in the National Center for Forensic Science at the University of Central Florida, his research focuses on the application of laser-based spectroscopy for forensic analysis: atomic spectroscopy with laser ablation techniques (LIBS and LA-ICP-MS) as well as micro-spectroscopy for trace analysis. His research focuses as well on stand-off detection with a secondary joint appointment at CREOL – The College of Optics and Photonics at UCF.
Dr. Sarah Jantzi is a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Florida International University (FIU) and acting facility manager of the Trace Evidence Analysis Facility (TEAF) at FIU. She has an Honours BSc in chemistry and forensic science from the University of Toronto, an MSc in analytical chemistry and forensic science from Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, and a PhD in forensic chemistry from FIU. She has been active in research for over 16 years in fields ranging from forensic science, biotechnology, geochemistry, agronomy, and regulatory testing.
Dr. Mauro Martinez graduated with a B.S in Chemistry in the Central of Venezuela University (Venezuela) in 2006, starting his experience in Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy. In 2013, he complete his Ph.D between the “Laboratoire de Chimie Anlytique, Bioinorganique et Environnement” (LCABIE) in the Pau University (France) and “Laboratorio de Espectroscopia Laser” in the Central of Venezuela University, under the direction of Dr. Brice Bouyssiere and Dr. Jose Chirinos in a French Venezuelan Graduate Program. He showed the new advantage of crude oil analysis by LA-ICP-MS and LIBS using a new methodology to trapped organic liquids into a xerogel matrix. He continued his research on LIBS as Assistant Professor in the Central of Venezuela University working in new methodologies to analyses organic matrix by LIBS.
Now he has a postdoctoral position in the Forensic Spectroscopy Laboratory at the National Center of Forensic Science in Orlando, applying in different kind of forensic samples (bones, hair, glass, etc) the advantage of solid sampling by laser ablation in LA-ICP-MS and LIBS.
